Villa Isis: A Nordic-New York Immersive Art Experience

Presented by Villa Isis in collaboration with Oscar Galleri, Norway, and supported by the Norwegian Consulate General in New York

June 25–29, 2026

Villa Isis 618 Plutarch Road, New Paltz, NY 12528

Villa Isis is pleased to present Villa Isis: A Nordic–New York Immersive Art Experience, a site-specific exhibition and public program taking place during Upstate Art Weekend 2026.

Bringing together artists from Scandinavia and New York, the exhibition explores the relationship between moving image, light, landscape, mythology, and contemporary storytelling. Through film, sculpture, sound, installation, and craft, participating artists examine how stories become embedded within place and how contemporary art can reshape our experience of the natural world.

Conceived as a living gallery, the exhibition unfolds throughout the house and across its two-acre Hudson Valley property. Several rooms feature dedicated presentations by individual artists, while installations throughout the grounds create a dialogue between landscape, mythology, spirituality, and lived space. Presented in collaboration with Oscar Galleri in Norway, the project fosters cultural exchange between Nordic and American artists while exploring alternative models for experiencing contemporary art beyond traditional gallery settings.

Featured art by Lise Ellingsen, Tine Surel Lange, Anki King, Avani Patel, Yasmeen Abdallah, Eliza Lu Doyle, Lisa Hennig-Olsen, Lisa Saeboe, Eva Davidova, Shayna Strype, Jens Lien, and additional invited artists.

A central component of the exhibition is a program of artist films and moving-image works by Eliza Lu Doyle, Lisa Hennig-Olsen, Lisa Saeboe, Lise Ellingsen, Eva Davidova, Shayna Strype, Anja Breien and Jens Lien.

Presented outdoors on the evening of Saturday, June 27, the screening transforms the property into an open-air cinema, bringing together works that move between experimental film, animation, and narrative storytelling. As night falls, light-based installations, illuminated sculptures, and video works activate the landscape, turning the grounds into an immersive environment where image, object, and terrain converge. The evening concludes with screenings, informal conversation, a barbecue, and Nordic flatbread provided by Norwegian Baked.

Additional installations include a site-responsive sculptural work by Anki King, constructed from branches and living plant materials; suspended mylar and acrylic works by Avani Patel installed among the trees; a sculptural installation using recycled materials by Yasmeen Abdallah; and a listening installation by Norwegian composer and sound artist Tine Surel Lange.

Daytime programming throughout the weekend will include sculpture workshops presented by Sculpture School and a lace-making workshop inspired by Nordic craft traditions. A selection of works by Sculpture School participants will also be presented in a temporary exhibition in the property's lower level.
